Empatia’s 5 Core Principles for Dementia Education
Our dementia education & coaching programmes are built on five core principles that support both people living with dementia & those who care for them. These foundations promote understanding, connection, & practical skills that can improve quality of life & reduce carer stress.
1. Ongoing Dementia Education & Emotional Support
We combine expert dementia counselling, coaching, & education to provide ongoing support — helping families better understand the condition, process emotions, & build confidence over time.
2. Identity & Adapting Together
Dementia doesn’t define you. We focus on helping individuals & families maintain a sense of identity, adapt with dignity, & avoid becoming stuck in rigid “carer” and “patient” roles.
3. Communication & Behaviour Changes
Understanding how dementia affects communication & behaviour is key. We teach strategies to interpret changes with empathy, reduce frustration,& strengthen relationships at home.
4. Navigating Transitions
Dementia brings many changes — big & small. This module supports you to plan ahead, cope with transitions, & feel more in control as circumstances evolve.
5. Building Resilience & Long-Term Wellbeing
We help you build emotional & practical resilience, which research shows can delay the need for residential care, reduce crises, & improve overall well-being for both carers & the person living with dementia.

How the Course Is Delivered
Empatia’s courses are usually commissioned by organisations supporting people with dementia & their families.
